Our University Celebrates the World Arabic Language Day
On the occasion of the World Arabic Language Day, the College of Education at our university held a large celebratory festival.
The festival program included reciting verses from the Holy Quran, reading Surat Al-Fatihah for the martyrs of Iraq, Gaza and Lebanon, and playing the Iraqi national anthem. After that, the poet Hussein Ali Al-Fadhli recited a group of poems that praised the Arabic language as the language of the Holy Quran.
The Dean of the College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Nada Sami Nassir, gave a speech in which she congratulated the Arab and Islamic nations, their institutions, and their academic, scientific and cultural circles, on the occasion of this day, which falls on the eighteenth of December of each year, based on the decision of the United Nations General Assembly in 1973 to adopt the Arabic language as the sixth official language in the organization, to be added to the English, French, Russian, Spanish and Chinese languages. This language, as the number of its speakers exceeds 450 million people, takes its place as an official language in about 25 countries.
Asst. Lect. Seema Fadhil Mashkoor Al-Dhalimi stressed in the speech of the Arabic Language Department that our language, which was destined by the grace of God Almighty to continue, is no wonder, as it is the language of the Holy Quran, preserved by His preservation until the Day of Judgment, God Almighty said: (Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur’an and indeed, We will be its guardian). Besides, the World Arabic Language Day organized by UNESCO provides an interactive platform that enhances dialogue, exchange and understanding, in celebration of the importance of the Arabic language on the global level, and seeks through it to bring together speakers from different categories and strengthen cultural ties. The festival program included holding a book exhibition, and another for the visual arts of the college students’ products. After that, the Assistant President of the University for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Turki Muftin Al-Ardi, the Assistant President of the University for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Safaa Mustafa Al-Janabi, and the Dean of the College distributed certificates to the distinguished students of the department.
