"The Legal System for Personal Use Copying of Protected Works" A Joint Book by Al-Ghazi and Mari
The Academic Center for Publishing and Distribution has published a joint book entitled "The Legal System for Personal Use Copying of Protected Works" by the President of our University, Prof. Dr. Aqeel Sarhan Muhammad Al-Ghazi, and Asst. Prof. Rawaa Alaa Mari, a lecturer at the College of Law at Al-Qadisiyah University.
The book is based on the principle of balancing copyright and consumer rights. The law permits individuals to reproduce a single copy of a protected work for personal, non-commercial use, without prior permission from the copyright holder. However, this right is conditional upon not harming the legitimate exploitation of the work or infringing upon the legitimate interests of the author. Furthermore, this copy may not be converted into a means of distribution, publication, or commercial use. Thus, personal use is a specific exception to the exclusive rights of the author to ensure access to knowledge and culture for individuals.
