Under the guidance of the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Mudhar Abdullah Al-Dalimi, and under the auspices of the respected President of the University, Prof. Dr. Aqeel Sarhan Muhammad, and in implementation of the curriculum prepared by the Deanship of the College of Medical and Health Technologies, the Department of Medical Administration held a workshop on (How to learn English effectively?), The teaching session was chaired by Dr. Rima Qashi at the University of Uttara, Malaysia, and moderated by Dr. Youssef Musa Sabti
The lecture emphasized: (The study of English is very important in today's world. It is widely recognized as the international language of business, technology, education and tourism, making it a valuable skill for personal and professional development. However, it is usually of little interest to non-native speakers. Therefore, the aim of this workshop is to provide clear guidance on how to study English by ourselves while considering the most common tips that we should follow. Accordingly, this workshop provided some resources that may support self-study of the English language such as dictionaries, the International Phonetic Alphabet, films, lyrics, songs, books and podcasts. The results show that improving English in the first place should be through reading and listening as many people think that in order to get better at speaking they have to speak a lot or do a lot of writing to improve writing. But in fact this is not exactly the way our brain works. The brain is like a bank. So putting money into our language bank is the mode of reading and listening. When we come to speak or write, then we can withdraw money from our language bank. But we can't get anything out before we put it in. Thus, the more we put in, the more we can get out. Thus, we cannot take out what we do not have. The more we read, the better we read. The more we listen, the better we listen. Therefore, reading and listening are important factors to improve our English in order to reach fluency. For this reason, here are some recommendations to learn more effectively such as: watching TV, listening to podcasts or downloading songs in English with their lyrics, reading English aloud and recording ourselves, reading books and looking for words in English in its language dictionary. That is why, Dr. Rima Qashi confirmed that the more we speak in English, the easier it is for us to learn).
